Pantaloon’s game for June is: KIDS
About KIDS
KIDS is a short interactive animation drawn by Michael Frei and coded by Mario von Rickenbach, their second collaboration after the award-winning project PLUG & PLAY.
The term ‘interactive animation’ might interest some. KIDS sits in a space almost between mediums, and raises interesting questions around what even makes a game a game anyway…
Pantaloon has an interview with Michael and Mario going live for primo-subscribers next week, but the excerpt below - where I asked the developers what they referred to KIDS as, I’ve pulled out for everybody:
Mario: I think it would be nice to just call it a game. But since many people have a very narrow perspective on what games are, we usually call it interactive animation in game stores. I guess it’s mainly to manage expectations. In the end it doesn’t really matter.
Michael: I find it intriguing that some people do not consider it a game at all. I hope to broaden the understanding of what a game can be by challenging expectations.
