Bold and Bizarre Games Bulletin (September)

Five weird and wayward games from five talented developers. Here we go…

#1 Human Garden

From The Water Museum - the brilliantly odd minds behind Arctic Eggs - Human Garden was developed as part of the Game Maker's Toolkit Game Jam 2024, and captures something both surreal and serene.

"Sift through a crumbling cluster of planets for what remains of humanity. Carry humans around on comets and return them to their sleeping chambers dead or alive. Preferably alive, but oxygen is unforgiving."

#2 I Am Your Beast

Out Now | Strange Scaffold

Strange Scaffold are bloody at it again, aren't they. Cracking out quality works at a rate of knots that is mostly frightening to anybody that works in game development.

I Am Your Beast is a stylish, lightning-paced FPS that pits you against hordes of the military-industrial complex in tight combat-sandboxes, as you're hunted across the North American wilderness.

#3 Shroom and Gloom

Prototype | Team LazerBeam

While true that roguelike deckbuilders are not exactly in short supply, Shroom and Gloom has enough going for itself to stand out from the crowd. Firstly, it's first-person, and looks gorgeous. And secondly, there's not just one deck to build and manage but TWO; a combat deck, yes, but also an 'Explore' deck for navigate dungeons, modifying cards, and unlocking new weapons and abilities.

#4 Bundle of Joy

Coming Soon | Essay Games

If keeping a small human alive and happy was a game, it would probably be Dark Souls. Except there's just one boss, and they always win.

Thankfully Bundle of Joy strips out all the gothic horror and presents a much more light-hearted take on child-rearing that is no less accurate. A minigame compilation with a narrative thread connecting the various parental-vignettes, Bundle of Joy tasks you with looking after a little baby-human during the pandemic. "Complete all your child-rearing tasks, manage your stress, find time to rest, survive the day, wake up, and do it all over again."

There's also a brand new demo, meaning you can check it out right now.

#5 With Shining Eyes

With Shining Eyes invites you to join Bellamy Academy - an illustrious academic institution - and backdrop to a collection of first-person puzzles. Explore classrooms, uncover the mysteries of the building, and learn about the Academy's Headmaster (and former student...) Anya Ashby.

No excuses with this one either; it's free.
