Bold and Bizarre Games Bulletin (October)

Five weird and wayward games from five talented developers, with some much needed unhinged-flavouring for Halloween. Here we go…

#1 Judero

Out Now | Talha and Jack Co

Judero is an action/adventure game based on the rich folklore of the Scottish Borders, built from handcrafted objects and bespoke figurines, then brought to life via stop motion. It sounds high-brow, doesn't it? Ornate and artisanal. And it is. But it's also a hodgepodge of genres and themes culminating in a fever dream of pagan weirdness, and not enough people are talking about it.

#2 Nippets

#2 | Itch Demo | Vatnisse Interactive

Nippets (best word ever, I can't stop saying it) is a hidden object game that makes clicking things very satisfying indeed. You click something and you just feel good about it. Across a quaint cityscape, a number of objects are scattered, divorced from their owners or places of being. Following visual logic-puzzles within the scene, you'll shake trees, open windows and pet dogs as you connect the dots of the little narrative vignettes to find said objects.

The demo has literally just hit Itch.io, and it is Very Nice Indeed.

#3 Fears to Fathom: Woodbury Getawat

#3 | Out Now | Rayll Studios

Fears to Fathom has been slowly, steadily and deftly building a fanbase since the release of its first episode back in 2021, going from strength to strength with its distinct flavour of 80s VHS meets photo-real walking-sim-horror. With the fifth episode - Woodbury Getaway - we follow Sydney Harper as she plans a weekend getaway to a rental in Woodbury with her college friends. Then it all sort've goes pear-shaped from there for her, poor girl. Oh, and there's a fishing mechanic because why wouldn't there be.

#4 Grunn

Out Now | Sokpop Collective

You have a garden to tend to, but also, you need to not die.

Sokpop's latest combines wholesome and satisfying garden maintenance with something dark and foreboding, as Grunn transforms itself into a survival horror. Sokpop elegantly pulls off this contrast of themes, retaining its signature offbeat style in the process.

#5 Creature Packets

Out Now | Kenforest

Ok, bear with me here, this isn't as disturbing as it'll first seem. Creature Packets is a game about...cooking small creatures in a microwave. But it's the opposite of what you think! The little packets are like little animal ready meals, and popping them in the microwave somehow cooks them into being.

The game was created in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 56 and is interesting enough to hopefully warrant a fully-realised vision at some point in the future.

Reminder! Pantaloon's partnered game for September is Four Last Things

"Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game made from Renaissance-era paintings and public domain recordings of classical music. It is about sin, and the Four Last Things – Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell – and strives to be intelligent and ridiculous in equal measures."

Ensure you’re signing up to the newsletter to get a key on October 31st.

Ok. That’s yer lot for October - until next month x
