Bold & Bizarre Games Bulletin (May)

It's time for your Bold & Bizarre Bulletin; a monthly round up of weird, wayward and otherwise notable games for May. This is the archived version of our monthly newsletter, and as such - our monthly Pantaloon Puzzle contained within is disabled.

Let us commence!

#1 SUPERMARKET TIMES

Somebody reached out about Supermarket Times believing that it felt 'Pantaloony'.  And yes. Hard agree. The game promises the thrilling fantasy of being "a normal person going shopping", and then presents a surreal point-and-click shop-'em-up, with bizarre products, and even more bizarre shoppers.

Honestly it's mad.

#2 CARS

Some of you may recognise the aesthetic here; Cars is a spiritual successor of sorts to Kids, which was created by Mario von Rickenbach and Michael Frei at Playables. Cars is a short game, but visually arresting and existentially memorable. And for $2.99, it's easy to take a punt on.

#3 INDIKA

Indika is bold in the sense that it's not often you play a game with an orthodox nun as the protagonist. Indika is probably the most high-profile entry in our Bulletin this week, but feels noteworthy. Set in alternative Russia at the turn of the XIX century, Indika blends a third-person journey with unique puzzles and 2D pixel-art mini-games.

#4 CROW COUNTRY

Gloriously dated but reassuringly familiar, Crow Country leans fully into the tropes of the survival horror genre, weaving a patchwork of the genre's best features and systems into something that - perplexingly - still manages to feel fresh.

More chunky polygonal imaginings of 90s games that never were, please.

#5 PART OF YOU

I've re-written this explanation of Part of You about eight times now; the game is impossible to distil into words. To lean on the game's own store description as a crutch, however, it's a 'puzzle-adventure game about finding yourself'. Doesn't help does it. How about that the game has a feature whereby you can 'flip and swap facial features o reclaim your missing identity'? No?

Ok, just go watch the trailer

Pantaloon Puzzles [archived - no active reward]

Moving forward, Pantaloon Puzzles will play a more integral role in our monthly giveaways. You solve the puzzle, you guarantee your game for that month.

Pantaloon Puzzles are obtuse by design, but - so more of you can get stuck in this time around - the general way to move forward is simply to append the clue-word or answer to the end of the pantaloon URL. e.g. pantaloon[dot]io/for-example

OR find the password for any of the locked pages - these are always words and always CAPITALISED, btw.

For this month, the Puzzle consists of five levels. Solve Level 5, and you’ll guarantee your key.

Ok, Level 1 then, be on your way!

Reminder! Pantaloon's partnered game for June is Penrose

Keys will be going out May 30th. If you haven't let us know you're interested in the game just yet, please do - this will aid our refined giveaway model and filter out unengaged members of our mailing list.

Alrighty, that's your Bulletin in the bag. Lovely.
